STRATFORD, Conn. -- His clutch home run against the Red Sox positioned his team to win the 1978 World Series. Now, he's taking a big swing for education.

Bucky Dent is scheduled to be the premiere guest at Sterling House Community Center's 14th annual Celebrity Breakfast on Tuesday, May 2.

Dent is still highly unpopular with bitter baseball fans throughout New England as the former New York Yankee short stop who crushed the home run that helped defeat the Boston Red Sox in a 1978 tie-breaker game. The Yankees would eventually go on to defeat the Los Angeles Dodgers in that year's World Series.

Also recognized during the breakfast will be Nick Giaquinto, a Stratford native who will receive the Sterling Spirit Award in honor of contributions to sports in Connecticut.

The event, which will benefit educational, social and recreational initiatives at Sterling House, is to be held from 7:30 to 9 a.m. at the Trumbull Marriott and costs $60 to attend.

To reserve a seat at the breakfast, call 203-378-2606, ext. 106, or email pcalabrese@sterlinghousecc.org.
